  • Open Minded Recovery
December 12, 2019 by Dopeless Hopefine from United States

Personally, I want to thank you about getting message out that there are many ways to recover, but also acknowledged 12 steps worked for you, I’m in the same boat.. I love the 12 steps ... for me.. but how others recover does not invalidate my recovery.. like it or not Dave , you’re an advocate for recovery and addicts.. I appreciate you for spreading honest empathetic views on recovery.. I hope every once and awhile you remind yourself that you are making a difference, and to be proud of yourself.. mad love and respect brother..

December 9, 2019 by RedStateChristians from United States

Found this podcast while driving through New Hampshire and Mass in October 2018. Heard the tragic news of Chris’ death and went back to listen from Ep 1. My first podcast to listen to religiously! I’m not an addict but work in the church and regularly help families through addiction. I’m also sister to a brother and brother in law in recovery. My cousin died of an overdose several years ago, and my dad grew up with an alcoholic dad. As an author and speaker, I can identify with Dave’s various neuroses and his aspiration to share his words with the world. Will share with many and keep listening.

You guys are really natural & comfortable. I’m fairly new to whole podcast thing & am going through my own thing with the brown. Your humour really helps puts some perspective onto an aspect of life that is usually all doom & gloom. David from London England

I found the podcast when This American Life featured Chris and Dave...this was in February. I quickly caught up and look forward to listening every week. I’ve struggled keeping my sobriety over the past couple years after having 12+ years...on the 15th I’ll have 90 days again. I haven’t resumed meetings (not off the table but just haven’t yet) but I try to stretch each episode out for a few days and sorta use it as my meeting for now. Thanks Dave! Happy Holidays to you and all the Dopey Nation!

  • Great eye opener to addiction and recovery
December 7, 2019 by MarisalovesJoeJ19 from United States

I found this podcast a little over a month ago after listening to the episode where David Sheff was a guest caller. I have been listening every day since and I cannot stop. This has really given me a new view on addiction, recovery, and everything else in between. I am now a Project Coordinator for Substance Abuse Prevention for at risk youth and I believe this podcast has educated me on many things some might not know unless they’ve experienced it themselves. Though it has passed, I am sad to hear about the death of Chris. He gave me many laughs from his stories, he will be missed. I just want to thank both Dave and Chris for everything they have done to bring this podcast to life. I will be consistent in telling everyone I know about this 5 start podcast because it is awesome. -Marisa

  • Really great podcast about drugs and recovery
November 22, 2019 by Nkay666 from United States

Still really loving show But, I just heard the girl call in about “wigger” comment. I think it was a funny comment and is very descriptive to me. One of the reasons I love the show is that it’s not censored or politically correct. I’d hate to see it go that way....if you’re gonna have to walk on eggshells not to offend or “trigger” anyone. So, I think people need to get a thicker skin and if they know it’s not meant to be racist or mean, it’s not everyone else’s problem, just my two cents. Whether you’re sober or not, this podcast is entertaining and informative. Normally I stay away from recovery topics but I really enjoy this. I just stumbled across this podcast and just listened to the Andy Roy episode and it was really amazing and entertaining!

  • Love to listen
November 18, 2019 by Ron Hanley from United States

I’ve just started listening in the last couple of weeks and love the show. It may sound stupid, but I have a heavy porn and food addiction (usually not manifesting themselves at the same time). Listening to how the guys on here battle, defeat, and oftentimes succumb to their drug addiction have made me see that all addiction is the same no matter what the substance. It feels good to hear that there is freedom from whatever may rule my life right now.

  • Taking comfort in the carnage!
November 9, 2019 by hbrewiii from New Zealand

Started listening to dopey a little over a year ago. I was in active addiction, living in an apartment by myself in Sydney, guzzling coke and benzos and feeling incredibly sorry for myself. I had never heard of NA or recovery at this time and just assumed I’d live a long and depressing life using drugs. After a 6 months period of 10 overdoses I decided to follow in Dave and Chris’s footsteps and am now clean. The war stories are now my fix for my addiction to a crazy life. Instead of going back out there I tune into dopey. It satisfies my dark side and gives hope to my growing light side. Thank you Dave!!! This podcast is DOPE!

  • Keeps me strong
November 9, 2019 by Matthew12817 from United States

I started listening to this podcast after first hearing about it on This American Life. I started at the beginning and listened to every episode over the course of a few months. I was about one year into recovery myself at the time. I fell in love with Dave and Chris - particularly Chris - knowing the “spoiler” that he was going to die by episode 143, and cried when it happened in my own timeline. I am impressed that Dave kept this going - he had every excuse to stop or at least take a break. The show understandably was a little bumpy after Chris’ death but has now found a groove that I look forward to each week. Nothing will replace the humor and flow of the early days of this podcast, but it remains on my list of weekly listens. Keep it up, Dave, and stay strong Dopey nation.

This is the best podcasts I listen to. Entertaining, funny, sad, great storytelling. Keeps your attention. Not to formulaic or over-produced so every episode is fresh. Amazed how well Dave has handled the transition to single host under awful circumstances. Love the voice mail stories! Stuff you won’t hear anywhere else. Thanks to the people who dedicate time and money to make this gem every week.

  • Warning: This Podcast May Be The Last You Ever Heat
November 3, 2019 by Cojoh032 from United States

I had the pleasure of coming across Dopey after hearing a couple of blurbs from the show on This American Life, one of the many podcasts that I have remained loyal to for quite some time. After hearing about 4 minutes of the This American Life segment, I immediately jumped over to the search function and put on episode 1 of Dopey. Because of my hasty switch, I failed to hear the part of the TAL segment that mentioned Chris’s death. When I got close enough to episode 143 to happen to read t title, I had the feeling so many others had described. It felt like a friend died, like someone who had been more a part of my life over the past few obsessive months than even some of my closest friends. And now he was gone. As someone who is a podcast lover, Dopey is different than anything I’ve ever heard before in the best way possible. The low production value of the early episodes makes them perfect in their own specific way. The banter between Chris and Dave makes me laugh in literally every episode and is truly better than any other co hosting arrangement I’ve ever encountered in a podcast. Nowadays Dave holds it down and is an amazing resilient host. I love when he brings in his childhood friends, and especially when his partner Linda features in the co host function, but no one will ever replace Chris. After finding Dopey, I have had a hard time returning to other podcasts that are so much less personal and intimate. No matter how popular this show becomes, I believe Dopey will always be a niche cultural gem that it’s dedicated fan base will cherish forever.

  • 5 stars
November 3, 2019 by Jame_976 from United States

Dave, I have been listening to the podcast since hearing about it via Liz Bentley from Feathers in My Hair (FYI a reality show podcast about the awful awful show Teen Mom [don't judge] you had Amber Portwood as a guest a while back. Liz is very open about her own recovery and would be a great guest on Dopey). Please if possible have more episodes like this week’s with Ray and the random Irish guy pontificating about gritty old NY. This kind of interview is SO much more entertaining to listen to than some self important celebrity who is unwilling to be really honest due to protecting their all important public persona.

October 28, 2019 by Jaytay897 from United States

Dave- I absolutely love the show and appreciate you going on after Chris passed. I think what you’re doing is amazing. That being said, not leaving a brutal comment about your guest on episode 210 has been the biggest test of my humility in just over a year (10/5/18) clean and living this way of life. I’ll take it out on my nightly tonight. Love from Oregon! Jesse T

I’m absolutely love this podcast, I decided to change my lifestyle back in September (I work in a bar) late nights and parties after work. I googled the best sober/recovery podcast and came across you guys. I’ve been listening to you guys every night. Such a funny show. About 10 episodes in I found out about Chris and I’m sorry for your loss. Good for you for keeping this going Dave! I feel Chris is vaping and burping and is happy that you kept the show alive. I look forward to all the other episodes. Michelle from Vancouver Canada ??

  • The Best Podcast!
    October 21, 2019 by S36G19 from Canada

Dopey is my favourite podcast! Started a while ago from the beginning after hearing about it on This American Life. I’m now up to the high 90s but I was hooked from episode 1. Hilarious, interesting, sad and informative all at once makes for a really excellent podcast. I’ve learned a lot about drugs I didn’t even know existed and other random knowledge. Dave and Chris make the listener feel like a friend and their chemistry and banter just works. Dave, I don’t mind your interrupting. It’s even sometimes helpful to clarify details when something doesn’t quite make sense. Overall it’s just awesome! Keep up the excellent work.

  • The needle rips a hole in the skin, and a deep red burst of color confirms your’re ready...
October 10, 2019 by Redeka from Canada

You push the plunger down, and almost immediately a metallic numbness seemingly appears out of nowhere in the back of your throat. You brace yourself, for you only have seconds before you become incapacitated with guilty pleasure. Your world fades out as the sound of a jumbo jet approaches from behind. As your hearing disappears, so do your problems...momentarily at least. Enjoy it while it lasts, for it won’t be long before the real world returns, and with it, all of your problems and more. You exhale, and the pleasure is gone; but the guilt remains. One more cant hurt, can it? (I hope you enjoyed this review “shot”. Take care and keep up the good work!)

September 28, 2019 by silverheadphones from United States

Only podcast I listen to that’s longer than 30 mins. Also the only recovery podcast I listen to. Favorite guest: Dave’s dad. Mild critiques: Sound quality is okay (ie often not great). Also I don’t understand the whole anonymous thing bc Dave’s last name is on their website. Totally unrelated: I’m also a fan of The Last Jewish Waiter. You should make more of those. In conclusion: As long as there is Dopey I will keep listening and keep Patreon-ing. Thank you for your service. You’re a star.

September 21, 2019 by nationals15 from United States

I have a lot of catching up to do, but am aware of Chris’ unfortunate overdose. I love the content you guys have put out so far, the only thing is that the other guy CONSTANTLY interrupts Chris and it gets in the way of his awesome stories and great storytelling ability! It’s at the point where I want to continue listening but all I can do is on is how often the other guy interrupts. Even though I’m sure he means well, I hope this changes as I continue listening.

  • I have a lot of catching up to do
September 18, 2019 by Stmargarita from United States

Like many other newcomers, I first heard of Dopey on This American Life, and I’ve been listening ever since. Not an addict (though i was a heavy drug and alcohol user at a very young age), but have past & current addicts in my family, & I’ve known many recovering addicts, as well as people we lost to addiction & the aftermath of the toll addiction can take on your body. It’s amazing that Dave is carrying on after what must have been a crushing (double) loss, and that he’s keeping it going & staying strong for the Dopey Nation. Listening to the stories & testimonials from people they’ve reached & helped with their podcast makes me laugh & cry & be awed every episode. Plus they and many of their guests sound like guys I grew up (and probably drank and lit up) with back East, so that’s a bonus here in Texas. Stay strong, Dopey Nation, & Toodles for Chris.

  • Dopey is Dope!
September 9, 2019 by Toteswildride from United States

Caught wind on Dave and Chris’s work through This American Life. I have been hooked since day one. It was great from the passing of Chris moving forward and also from the very beginning to the loss. I highly recommend listening from the start. From my standpoint (a person who is afflicted with addiction), this show keeps me going. My past is so dark and I know I am not alone. A lot of what I make it through was funny and I’m glad Dave, Chris and the Dopey Nation agree. These stories are who we were and telling them reminds us that we don’t want that chaos anymore. I especially love Dave’s dad and his role in this podcast. Now that I am older, I watch others that are younger than me suffer (friends and family) and I know this pain too, which Alan reminds us is so very real. The suffering of an addict is heart wrenching. Alan’s love is genuine and endless, which is needed in every addicts life. Judgement and excessive favors are no good in any relationship, lines must be drawn... however, love must always be present. I feel that love from Alan! You guys are great! Dave, my heart is bleeding for you. The struggle, the loss, and the darkness. I’m here with you, brother. We all are. Please, please keep doing what you do! I patiently wait the drop of the podcast each week. It’s always thrilling and never a let down (even when Chris thinks it’s the worst). Stay strong!

I love listening to Dopey. I started listening after I heard of Chris’s death (which really guts me after listening to so many episodes of him). I’m a recovering alcoholic with a pretty significant drug history as well, but I find the episodes to be very funny and in the midst of laughter, Dave and Chris say something that really resonates with me. Overall, extremely entertaining and therapeutic. Love ya Dave and miss you Chris. You’ve helped me a lot.

Hey man. I love your show. I have nine years clean ‘in the other fellowship’. At first the NA bashing in your earlier episodes kind of got to me but the stories kept me coming back for more. Eventually I made it to the later episodes where you guys cite the big book and other AA rhetoric and it really captured my curiosity. I’d compare my current situation to being the worlds number one Better Call Saul fan who dislikes Breaking Bad despite never seeing a single episode. Anyways, thanks for sharing and I will keep coming back.

  • You’ll laugh, you’ll cry. Amazing podcast.
August 17, 2019 by Rudyard 23 from United States

Found this podcast after listening to This American Life episode on it. Since then been hooked. While you don’t have to go back to EP1 to get it, I recommend you do. Hearing the origins of the podcast, the lo-fi beginnings (I like the pre-mic episodes for the rawness of them) and understanding the relationship between the presenters Dave and Chris (RIP) really enhances the later episodes. The tales they tell are hilarious and uncensored in their honesty. The guests start as mates of the presenters in the early eps and by the later ones you got huge stars of sports and Hollywood. It’s hard to sum up just how cool this podcast is and really describe it to anyone that’s not listened in, but I can safely say it’s number 1 on my list and can’t wait to see what Dave does with it next. Thank you Dave and Chris. Toodles!

  • This seemingly dumb podcast makes me think.
August 12, 2019 by Januarystone from United States

I have only been listening for a short time and am way late to the Dopey Nation party. I am still many episodes ( years) behind and am working on catching up. I don’t want to skip any because I want to experience the inevitable evolution of the thing. I love this podcast because I can relate to some of the situations; sometimes literally, sometimes metaphorically. I love the discussions and how they always go sideways and off-topic, which is what conversations with my closest friends are often like. It’s true what Dave says: “People want to be kept company.” Dopey does this for me. I live far away from all my closest buddies, and listening to these guys feeds that “bromance” part of my sometimes lonely brain. I like the hodge podgey mix of debauchery and recovery. The guys are actually helping people despite themselves, which is what makes it such a great listen. So many other podcasts are so up themselves that they stop being organic. This is 100% pure, dudes just hanging out telling stories and debating issues. So bells no whistles (40 eps in) and I hope it doesn’t change too much. I know there is some darkness coming up (spoiler alert from a friend) but I’m choosing to make my way slowly through anyway. I love it.

  • Amazing
August 12, 2019 by HJChapin from United States

This is just what I needed. I love how raw this show is and the honesty with which it describes the struggle to get sober (whatever that means to each individual) and stay sober. I am wondering now how Ashley made out after his trauma journey. Also, I love it when your Dad is on the show, he cares and he’s trying to understand addiction. Props to Dad!!

  • Insanely captivating
August 12, 2019 by dopeyitunesreviewoftheweek from United States

Dopey has opened my mind to the world of addiction that i never thought existed. I found dopey through this American life and have listened to every single episode except for the one where Dave interviewed that Sam cutler. That was awful man. As a normey, Chris, Dave and the numerous guests has taught me more than i would have ever learned elsewhere about the addiction affliction. It’s helped me understand why people are the way they are with substances and has made me more self conscious about my own substance use. I joined the dopey nation Facebook page and through the site i found an online narcan training course in which i became “certified” in narcan administering. I have 3 cars, each car has a narcan kit in the glovebox just in case I’m ever out and about and run into someone who’s swirling the drain due to their affliction. I do not suffer from the affliction but understand it better, and i feel it’s my duty to be prepared to help someone when they’re in need, of the chance ever arises because everyone deserves another chance. Dopey opened my eyes to that. Thanks Dave. Keep up the good work and i highly recommend this dope dopey podcast about dope.

This podcast is such a journey, it's a story in itself while telling drug fuelled mentalness. I've never met Chris, but through this podcast I feel that I get a sense of him and mourn his loss. The relationship between the two is beautiful and it's impossible not to feel hurt by the lose and wanting it to be different. I'm angry at Chris! I do prefer the podcasts with Chris in them but Dave is doing great on his own. It would be great for there to be another permanent co host, but I'm not sure how that could work... I guess I just want Chris back! I also love the song, I wish it was possible to download. This is the first time I've wanted to email a pod with my own story.. X

July 30, 2019 by Beige Young from United States

Dopey Podcast is not for everyone. In fact, the people who would find this podcast depraved are probably the majority of the outstanding moral citizens that have build our civilization. Dopey is for everyone else. Dopey is for those of us that live underneath the buildings and structures our fellow man has built, as we use our cunning and manipulation to make a quick buck of the normies and prod our arms with sharp tips or buy flowers at gas stations. I found Dopey accidentally amidst a five day relapse of black out fentanyl. Very fitting. I have grown attached to Dave, I have grown attached to Chris, only to be reminded how soul sucking heroin addiction is. Nobody is immune to the fatality of dope, not even the goofy, people pleaser Chris who was taken from the dopey nation. hopefully he is no longer stirring in ADHD or listening to terrible electronic music as he rests in peace. We all miss you Chris. We all thank you Dave for staying strong for all of us in the Dopey Nation. All of us degenerate drug addicts, thiefs, felons, and alcoholics are proud members of the Dopey Nation and I will rep Dopey forever. Thank you for bringing genuine light to our worlds of darkness and death. Joe Young of Boston

Dave has really stepped up since the sad loss of Chris. Dopey is evolving every episode it seems. It’s amazing to see where it is going and to watch and be involved where possible. Very funny great stories and also has a layer of treatment that you don’t even notice but leaves me feeling calm and centered. Keep it up Dave. Stay strong dopey nation. Toodles.

I found this podcast later on and I’ve been hooked. I’ve been going through a lot of the older episodes and love the discussions, non-preachy attitude, and how real Dave is. I was very surprised and sad to find out about Chris and Todd. It’s a sad reminder that a relapse can happen to anyone if they’re not careful. My cousin is currently on a dope run and he’s OD’d several times already. If I have the chance to speak with him again (no idea where he’s at) I’d like to introduce him to this podcast as well. I think he would resonate with this podcast more than others. Dave, thank you for continuing to produce this podcast after Chris passed. I appreciate everything you do brother. Stay strong Dopey nation!

Although this podcast was started by two drug addicts, there truly is something here for any human being to appreciate, learn from, and enjoy. I really admire the candidness with which Dave speaks, and that he allows us to look into his mind, his life, and his heart. I am not an addict, but like most people I know at least one and I’m sure there are people in my life that I don’t even know struggle with addiction in some form. This podcast is incredibly entertaining, informative, and inspiring. I look forward to many years of listening to Dopey.

Amazing podcast! Dave’s great! Smart funny and super easy to listen to. And sometimes you get the privilege of hearing his original music... like Good so bad or my personal favorite Forever and Dead!!! So good! As a 34 year old habitual IV heroin and cocaine addIct.... 3 yrs in recovery....it’s really hits home. But I would love it even if I never touched a drug! I listen to this whole catalogue EVERY day at work. I’ve just started over at episode 1 to listen AGAIN to every episode. I do miss the episodes with Chris because they were the best but Dave on his own is great too! Love you Dave I really feel like I know you. My boyfriends mother... who has never done drugs EVER actually turned me on to this podcast so that’s a testament to the fact that you don’t have to be an addict to love this podcast! You’ve wanted reviews since day one Dave so here u go! Stay strong Dopey Nation!!!!!! ?? Dave please send me forever and dead or a link to it so I can hear it every day!!!! Hi Dave When I was hanging out with my ex-fiancé one weekend, he played your podcast and I couldn’t stop listening, up until what happened to Chris.. it was very sad and took me to that moment two years ago, in our lives when I found my ex in our bedroom, with a photo of me and him in his hand, overdosed. But i got to him in time and had called the ambulance, whilst I frantically did cpr. It brought the worry I had of him doing this again. He passed away two weeks ago on accidental overdose. My heart is broken. I don’t know how to process this. How do you pick up the pieces ?

I got into Dopey through This American Life and I couldn’t be happier to have found it. It’s so refreshing to hear such down to earth people speaking so frankly about the human condition. I don’t partake anymore, but the ‘banter’ is top notch (as we say in Australia) and I can imagine my old friends and Dave and Chris getting along well as I listen to the early episodes. Of course I was crushed to learn about Todd and Chris - my heart goes out to you, Dave. Stay strong, Dopey Nation!

May 31, 2019 by 2Jstro from United States

I'm in year three of my recovery from drugs and alcohol. I go to Refuge Recovery, which I love and know has saved me, but I don't hear many down in the gutter needle in the arm stories in our meetings, and I crave them like an addict. When I found Dopey, I had an aha moment; this is what my recovery has been missing, and it's hilarious. Dopey helps me stay sober, thanks.

My sponsor introduced me to this podcast RIGHT when I got sober and my wife and I are HOOKED! I feel like so many meetings are so sad and sometimes they need to be to get through to us but this, as perfectly described by my sponsor, is all of the stuff you want to say in meetings that you can’t say! All the funny stories that you wish you could tell without glorifying your drug of choice with SO much honestly and humor. I seriously can’t get enough and I want a Dopey T-Shirt!!!!! • It's the Best
May 14, 2019 by Squamuel from United States

I want to start off by saying that Dopey has been the #1 influence in my life in terms of encouraging me to take steps towards recovery. When I got into Dopey about a year ago I had just graduated from college with a bag of black tar tucked under my gown, with no notion of what I wanted to do with my life. I wasn't ready to abandon drugs, but I knew something had to change. Much as Dave+Chris intended, I sought Dopey out originally for the dopey stories and stayed for the recovery. This winter I discovered that my partner had been lying about her sobriety, and her drug use continues to be very difficult and painful for me. Staying sober ain't easy when you live in dope's company. Dopey has been instrumental in giving me a platform for understanding and approaching the tough things I know I need to do if I want a chance of having the life I want. I have started to attend meetings semi-regularly, work with an addiction specialist, significantly reduce my pot consumption, and taper off suboxone. I currently listen to dopey for 1-4 hours a day, and am working through all the episodes consecutively for the 2nd time. I love the perspective Dopey gives me, but realize that it alone can't save me. I feel immense gratitude to Dave for keeping the podcast going and keeping me company. I was always more of a Dave guy, but as I have grown to be a bigger fan, Chris's life and death have come to mean a great deal to me. I can't begin to express my gratitude to both of the two beautiful people who started this podcast, and hope that as dopey continues to grow so do I. TOOODLES

May 13, 2019 by dannyreils from United States

I, like many, heard about this podcast recently from the This American Life feature and got completely hooked. I went back as far as I could and listened from the beginning to hear the story unfold. I guess I’d consider myself a normie, typical blackout drunk from back in my college days, however I did grow up with an alcoholic father in and out of rehabs and AA rooms who also suffered from depression and was a heavy cigarette smoker. For some reason this podcast helped me understand the worst years of my father’s alcoholism prior to his death from a heart attack when I was only 19. This podcast has shown me how beautiful friendship can be through Chris and Dave’s antics, and also reminded me how fragile life is when faced with addiction. Dave, thanks for reminding us how awesome the [seemingly] small things in life are and keep up the great work. I find this podcast to be amazing and the message your sending is critical to all of us, even normies like me, keepnup the great work.

Dopey the Podcast about the podcast Dopey and this is a review about that Podcast. Hands down I love having Chris and Dave in my head space. I first heard of Dopey when the interview the The Baby Gorilla Artie Lang. Shortly afterwards we lost Chris. I went back and started with episode 1. At first I was wanted to listen and see if I can fine any signs of Chris’s downfall. I can’t, but I can say I love this show more than Clam chowder from Gloucester MA. Keep your head up Dave and stay strong Dopey Nation. ATD, Ryan

  • You want to be a part of this!
May 11, 2019 by fsucrewshayne from United States

I stumbled upon this podcast about a month ago, as this was one of my many attempts to understand and reckon with a close family member’s drug addiction. As a “normie,” I was instantly hooked, and I have already listened to 80 episodes in just over 30 days. I told myself I wouldn’t write a review until I got to episode 100 (even though Dave and Chris tell the Dopey Nation to write a review at least three times an episode, conservatively). But I changed my mind, wanting to wax poetic about this amazing podcast a little sooner. This is certainly a podcast about drugs, addiction, recovery, and other dumb sh**, but it’s about a lot more than that. It is about friendship and love. It is about facing your demons. It is about telling the messed up stories of your life and having people who understand them and accept you regardless. This is the most real, most raw podcast I’ve ever listened to. Dave and Chris have a way of making their listeners truly feel like we are part of something bigger, something more important. This podcast really is for anyone- not just addicts. Trust me, you want to be a part of Dopey Nation.

So I heard the story about this podcast through this American life and from then on I really can’t stop listening. I’m on episode 80 and it’s hard to believe Chris is gone from listening to his voice for what seams like a long time. Dave you are awesome and so was Chris. Your podcast has just gotten better and better with time and I look forward to hearing upcoming episodes. Anyways I am 28 years young and a recovering heroin addict and boy do these stories bring me back. I have 5 years clean and it’s hard to believe I was once that girl from all those stories I hear on here in one way or another. I also really love how you include your listeners into your podcast. Keep up the good work!

May 2, 2019 by Mac111680 from United States

After hearing about Dopey on This American Life, I have been unable to listen to any other podcast. I am completely addicted! I have listened to over 40 episodes and am racing through them trying to listen to every single one before the anniversary of Chris’s Death. Dave you are completely amazing for staying strong and continuing on with the podcast. I am unafflicted by drugs, but this podcast still has me hooked! Chris is my spirit animal for being completely clueless on somethings despite being highly intelligent. Today I finally googled who Artie Lang is. Maybe tomorrow I will check out who Nick Reiners dad even is. I’m learning so much on this podcast about life and substance abuse and I just can’t get enough of the banter and real conversations! I wish I had started listening to Dopey live in the beginning so I could have emailed in and respond to all of your stupid ‘write us a review’ pleas. I must warn any potential listeners that once you start listening you won’t be able to stop. Stay strong dopey nation. Tootles.

I discovered this podcast about a week before of the TAL segment. I am not afflicted, but have always had a soft spot for addiction memoirs. It’s incredible to listen to the relationships showcased by Dopey. Dave, despite whatever you may think are your shortcomings, it is obvious that you are a good friend, partner, and father. The same qualities that make you a good person, make you a good interviewer. Few people can connect with a guest the way that you do. I feel as if I don’t know Chris as well given that I started listening after his passing. I really enjoy Chris in the early episodes. His understanding of his sobriety seemed so clear at the time. I hate that he wasn’t able to stay clean. I’m sorry you lost him and I’m sorry you lost Todd. Thank you for creating Dopey. I may not be able to relate to everything, but I love listening just the same.

April 22, 2019 by MacRealGirl from United States

Hey Dave! Love you man. I heard about this podcast from listening to This American Life and I’ve been binging it, in true addict fashion, ever since. I just celebrated my second year of clean time on 4/16/2019. Dopey is irreverent, funny, smart, stupid and profound. As I write this review I’m struck with the feeling that; like when I share in a meeting, I want this to be meaningful and entertaining and funny and awe inspiring. And like when I share in meetings, it feels like I’m falling flat. Anyway, it’s great/scary traveling this road to recovery and all things Dopey make it more tolerable. A small part of me wants to be a guest on your show. However, for those in the back, I’m not that entertaining.

I was turned onto Dopey by a friend, it was explained to me as dark comedy rooted in drugs, alcohol, and addiction. I’ve been listening for a couple weeks now. Starting from the first avail. Episode and moving forward. I’m now completely caught up, and I can honestly say this pod cast has had me in tears. Both through laughter and sadness. None the less Dopey is not afraid to lay it all out. The stories are hilarious and the emphasis on recovery still shines through, without shoving it down your throat. • Best. Podcast. Ever.
April 10, 2019 by Baltimore Stephen from United States

Enough said. But seriously, I love this show. I spend enough of my time hearing/sharing pure experience, strength, and hope while I’m at meetings. But when I’m hanging out with my friends, my crew so to speak, this show is how we talk to each other. Laughing at the terrible insanity of our past, and sharing a true bond because of our common problem. Listening to this show is like hanging out with a best friend I’ve never even met. I’ve been listening to this every day as I catch up. Each episode gives me some bit of insight into what my husband may have been going through. Though not an addict myself, hearing people’s stories of their dark times as well as recovery makes me feel not alone as we struggle through this together. I cried hard during Chris’s last episodes because I truly felt I knew him by spending so much time with his story. Dave, I am so pleased with how you are carrying it on and the podcast is growing. My husband wrote with you when he was still in his secretive phase and I am forever grateful for you and Chris.

I’ve attempted to listen to countless podcasts that deal with all kinds of interesting subject matter and They all share one great failing, hosts who’s voices make you want to jam a screwdriver into your ear canal. Dopey is the exception. Aside from topics that are near and dear to me as a recovering iv drug user, I also connect with Dave and Chris (rip) on a personal level and the chemistry between the two is undeniable and genuinely fun to listen to. Listening to dopey feels like hanging out with old friends and telling stories trying to crack each other up.

April 5, 2019 by Pooks13 from United States

Dopey makes me laugh at the desperate and depraved choices those of us who are afflicted make while we’re active without making me feel jonesy. Instead, I’m reminded that picking up again would be the worst possible choice I could ever make. It’s experience, strength and hope with war stories. I love it!

I started listening not long ago when I got into recovery for weed addiction. Since that moment I have been listening to this podcast every day and have 43 days clean now. Thank you guys, you and Reddit r/leaves are keeping me on the straight and narrow and I never want to go back to smoking weed. Even though it was fun to grow, I am done. Probably wouldn't be able to do it without my program and you guys, even though Chris is no longer with us, I haven't listened that far yet. Thank you for helping me stay strong. I love the funny phrases like Rope-a-Dope and the scenes of New York and Dave's restaurant. I love the guy who wrote in saying he didn't know if he was a 'normie with afflicted tendencies' and Dave says, "If you say that you're probably just an addict." Keep it real and stay strong Dave. I'm also the creator of a live storytelling show in Oakland, California and our April 20 show (4/20) is all about Drugs. Although I do a Drugs show every year, this will be an especially good one since I'm no longer a stoner but I still love to hear other peoples' stories. Maybe I can hit you with some Dopey from that show when it's done. Peace.

I started listening to Dopey after I heard it discussed on This American Life. It comes off as goofy at first listen, since it sounds unedited, is not recorded with the best sound equipment, and is inscripted. But as I listened, I was reeled in and it is now my favorite podcast. I am a long time podcast listener and am a recovering alcoholic and IV drug user. In AA meetings, which I've been attending for decades, I prefer speaker meetings and what are referred to as "war stories." Also in meetings, members apologize for "rambling" or deviating from the topic, and these ramblings are the more meaningful and compelling part of their shares. Therefore, hearing drug stories and rambling banter is ideal for me, especially since I suffer from ADD. I'm sorry for your losses, Dave, but the honest processing and grieving you did on the show was an evolved, deep and inspiring example of true recovery in action and shows that a recovering person doesn't have to go out and medicate themselves when faced with a devastating event. I just heard episode 41 in which Chris said that if he were to relapse and die . . . just giving an example to make a point, was poignant. We know that is often the result, but denial allows us to assume that's not going to happen to me or those close to us because we are in recovery. Making one impulsive, poorly thought out decision can be deadly. Thanks for taking the time to read this review if you have. Stay strong, Dopey Nation, and toodles to Chris, A devoted fan, Chiquiz

I’m the Dopey equivalent of a Touch Head, the Grateful Dead fans that hopped on the train late in the game when the “Touch of Grey” music video came out: I started listening after hearing about Dopey on This American Life. It’s saddening and daunting to know that Chris is dead while I listen back from the beginning - I’m on episode 106 now after starting with the earliest available episode (#30?) - especially with the jokes foreshadowing his inevitable relapse and death littered throughout the early episodes. While not afflicted (certainly not to the degree that Dave and Chris and others are), this show has been a revelation for me and has made me more mindful of my behavior and the behavior of friends and family when it comes to drugs and alcohol. It’s no surprise how many folks have been helped by the catharsis and laughs this show provides for those in need. I’ve got some extremely dopey stories - some my own, others about friends - but I’ll save those for when I’ve caught up to real time. RIP Chris and Todd, and I trust Dave is staying strong and hope that the show is still going strong now. I also hope that reading fan voice memos is still a thing when I reach the present episodes, as I’ve got some funny ones to share. Thanks Dopey! - pete

Dopey is great. Dave and Chris have kept me entertained for hours. I miss Chris but Dave is charging ahead but not nearly as raw and funny as it was with Chris. Chris was sweet, with ridiculously addict stories of debauchery and the insanity addiction brings. He was def heavily inflicted and it got him in the end. I think Dave should release the episodes they say were "deleted". Come on I know they are somewhere safe! Thanks Dave for keeping it together and staying strong for a nation that needs all the help we can get.

Dopey has become, with age, like ‘fine wine’. Wine we can’t drink of course, but it has gotten better and better thanks to Dave taking a tragedy and turning it into something special. If none of the above makes sense it’s because there is NO way of explaining just how great this show is and how much it’s helped myself and countless others. There are no words, only five stars that should be ten! I miss Chris and his vape tapping, his giggling and the great chemistry the two had and also the fact that these two legends created this phenomenal pod. Unfortunately the disease took him but as I said, instead of shutting it down, Dave took Dopey & well... just listen to the show! Subscribe. Laugh. Cry. Learn. Enjoy! Toodles.

  • Makes recovery fun and has potentially saved my life
March 7, 2019 by B0ssm0mmy from United States

I have been an avid listener of many Recovery podcasts but none make me feel how I do when I listen to Dopey. I had always thought Dopey wasn’t for me just by judging the looks of it.. I’m not a heroin addict and I tend to gravitate towards the typical sobriety podcasts where people tell their story in an interview setting. After hearing about Chris’s death on That Sober Guy, I started bingeing from the beginning and Dave and Chris feel like family. The stories are raw and as real as it gets, but I love the humor in their dialogue as well. Dave has kept me motivated in staying sober as it is so evident that he is extremely happy in sobriety, and Chris is a reminder of what can happen if I go “out” there again. Love them both, and this podcast. Dave, please keep it going... you have helped me more than you will ever know. Xoxo Amanda (Former terrible drunk; wife and mom)

I’ve started Dopey from the start and love it. I am not an addict and find it fascinating. It has given me an appreciation and understanding of addiction. I started listening to this while I was pretty stressed and waiting for results from a cancer biopsy. Luckily I’m all clear but the comedy and stories in dopey helped me keep my sense of humour through a tough time and prevented me from feeling too sorry for myself. Thanks Chris and Dave.

Found you through this America life. Love your banter. I have been on a listening bing for the last couple weeks. Helps me get through work. Chris had a great laugh. You and him had a special relationship for sure and it is missed. Not only is it a Great War story podcast but you guys also touch on many self discoveries people deal with. I think many people that have never been through any form of recovery kinda walk the earth without those epiphanies. It’s good for all to hear. Not sure if I am making sense but main point is dopey is a great podcast and thank you for making it! Christine

  • The dopest dope that's ever doped
March 6, 2019 by Lony6 from United States

These guys are pretty great. As a non diagnosed Normy with potently addictive behavior, the stories these guys tell about drugs are a view into a whole other world I knew existed but I knew nothing about. The stories show a glimpse into the lowest of parts of humanity that show people as little more than animals chasing one pleasure after another with no ability to use reason because of the enslavement to their addiction. But while I find these stories beyond depressing Dave and Chris and guests are laughing and making fun of themselves because of their freedom and confidence they have in their sobriety or recovery. (I don't really understand the vocabulary.) While I have never used drugs nor am I in a 12 step program, maybe I should be I don't know, I connect alot with the emotional, relational, and physical triggers that lead to addiction. They turned to drugs and I turn to my own problems. Anyways, I'm a big fan of what they do even without having a clue what they're taking about anything drug related, but the talk about 12 steps and addictive behavior is powerful and authentic. Stay strong, my friends.

I have Been binging Dopey in reverse since querying heroin in This American Life. Btw There exists a couple of other good dope related This American Life episodes for anyone interested. Dave has a rare natural ability to connect with people on a deep level indiscriminately. I think he's just getting comfortable with his newfound talent, leading him to endlessly coax reassurance from his guests, confirming he's doing a great job. I'm jealous of his extroversion and ability to maintain friendships, a family. These connections are rare in recovery and loneliness is one of the many hallmarks of it. I believe this is the cornerstone in his stable abstinence. Dave's honesty is honorable. I connect more to Chris, being a privileged WASP that likes to tinker with his brain chemistry and is fascinated by the science of drugs. I'm currently smoking a G of dope a day, have been off and on for about a year and have some fire coke tonight which is unusual but welcome as I have to stay up all night due to my sleeping 'til four today. Have to get back on schedule right? I've never shot dope and don't plan to, but reluctantly assisted my ex in puncturing her tiny veins many times. Before the dope, that I never thought I'd become addicted to, I was a self-medicating drunk (social anxiety) and Adderall addict. Anyway, I procured Iboga root off the dark net, this is my second order and it is fantastic. I highly recommend you get an Iboga expert ex-junkie on the show. Your episodes that touched on it were funny, but the subject deserves more attention. Thanks and keep it up Dave, I love it!

  • Seriously funny and honest
March 5, 2019 by Chapoto4 from United States

The general humor and banter between Chris and Dave is what really sucked me into this great podcast. It’s been fun seeing these two grow a podcast from nothing. I love how honest and raw these two are about their lives. I knew Chris had passed away before I started listening, but I grew so fond of him through a couple dozen episodes that I was genuinely heart broken when I got to his last few episodes. I was so sad I couldn’t get myself to listen to any more. Listening to the two of you has made me a better friend, and certainly more sympathetic to people struggling with addiction and mental illness. Dave, if you read this, I LOVE the story you tell Chris about the Indian guy at the farm calling the goats milk “medium”, and the conversation about Chris sweating so bad he “dries” up walking to the brain trauma clinic. Hysterical stuff and tootles for Chris. Keep it up!

I always look for cool genuine podcasts where it’s not your regular “interview where we talk about a, b, and c.” Heard about this from a this American life segment and cried listening to the story, then stopped it and started listening to this podcast from ep 1, now up to 35. I love getting to know the guys and their sense of humor and way they talk is just like me and my friends. It’s sad knowing about Chris in real time, and making it worse because I’m getting attached right now from back then, but can’t stop won’t stop I guess.

  • Keep on Keeping On
February 24, 2019 by MrsGooneybird from United States

There is nothing like this out here now. I’m glad “This American Life” brought this to my attention. I’m giving this 5 stars. The episode 142, Chris nails it. He says something to the effect that hearing the stories has a better chance at getting people to seek help, than other traditional approaches. With opioids especially, you or your friends can be laughing one day & be dead the next. We all know it, but we keep using. The content is very real. And the episode 143 is heartbreaking. I’m so sorry. I started using opioids for legitimate medical issues, but found myself dependent. Ended up on suboxone, but I can’t seem to cut off my chemical leash. I wish I’d never started opioids. Living with this dependency has been horrific. It has changed me in ways I’d never have guessed. We lost our house & countless relationships. I stayed in an abusive, unhealthy relationship. I almost lost my kids & my job. I believe my life will be cut short due to this. I still can’t seem to go to any meetings. This podcast has helped motivate me to taper. I have hope again. “I want to be good so bad.”

  • Audio, Audio, Audio
February 21, 2019 by tokyokyoko from United States

Dave read a “bad” review in a recent episode that said the audio was really lacking. I don’t think that was a bad review but a pointed observation. I completely agree with the writer that the audio quality detracts from the awesomeness. The show has serious potential, but it has to allow for improvement to grow. Part of that is insulating the podcast space and buying better equipment. Other than that, (and the need for more women!!) I love it. I, too, started listening after This American Life, and I, too, have been personally affected by the overdoses of loved ones and toxic alcoholism. This show addresses it all. It’s deep in a rare way; uniquely oriented toward the human experience and how we cope with it all—life, death, and suffering.

I’ve binge listened and am on episode 71. The podcast is so real. I can’t recommend it enough. It’ll give you a birds eye view into the life of addiction and recovery. February 9, 2019 by Dhfffhvfdsfhj from United States

This show is great. The new episode after they were on this American Life is not a good example of how great this show can be. The guest Bob Forest or whoever is annoying and won’t stop talking and he is an absolute idiot. Shut up and let the host do his thing. Chris was the perfect balance. This dude just talks and doesn’t listen. SHUT UP.

What a great show. I have never taken an illegal drug in my life. Not even weed. However, I recently lost a favorite nephew to a drug overdose. This podcast is helping me to understand a little more about him. Thank you.

I am an addict in recovery, 18 months clean next week, and I just found your podcast after hearing about it on “This American life.” It’s great, I can really relate, it reminds me of conversations I always had with a couple of friends who I have lost in the past so thank you for that! Your show isn’t like anything I have heard before, that is great for both addicts and non addicts! I have recommended it to a few people who also really enjoy it! Thanks again, David from Rhode Island

This podcast is super funny, super relevant, and super rewarding. As of this review, I am less than 10 episodes deep but as an addict, in recovery, I am always looking for new metaphoric drugs - this fills a huge void. Keep up the good work guys - I will keep coming back. R.I.P Chris

I’m not an addict but have had too many in my life. The stories and interviews are funny, honest and this is a rare find. keep it up Dave. Stay Strong Dopey Nation. #tootles

Keep up the great work Dave, really enjoyed this week's episode with Ashley Hamilton. He has such warm enthusiasm, you guys were great together. Nice job on that podcast research, I was impressed. Hi to ALAN! I'm listening to Ep. 108, need a Chris fix. I used to listen to Home all the time but they quit and I couldn't find a podcast that was as edgy and vibrant. Finally. I like how you have a loose structure. Toooodles! Stay Strong Dopey Nation!

  • Greatest Drug/Recovery Podcast
January 14, 2019 by TheRealNateFrogg from United States

I love this podcast. I’m purely writing this because I know it helps with ranking and increasing their audience and I have that much respect for Dave & Chris(RIP). Not some scientist with a monologue voice, not boring facts. This is a fun, good ole war stories from the “good” years mixed with a personable outlook on recovery, a look at how good life can be sober, and a reflective introspection on our past, dark years. This is a podcast like no others, Dave goes out of his way to spin recovery in a fun, humorous light and that’s a much needed perspective in this community and above all else, it’s relatable. Dave if you read this, I’ll donate to y’alls podcast and buy a few shirts along with (if you want) I can help market the podcast thru social media platforms. Shoot me an email and we can talk Dave

January 3, 2019 by numbnuts from United States

Dave is a cool, old school NYC Jew-unfortunately a rapidly dying breed. He’s been through the addiction ringer, yet maintains a great sense of humor-like most of us survivors. I think it’s the only way we get through this upside down world. Keep up the good work Dave...you’re helping many of us.

Dave and Chris really feel like friends I’ve known for so long. They've become a major part of my recovery. Loosing Chris was very painful being he helped me get sober. Dave you are like a brother and I’m glad to have you in my network and thank you for what you are doing. I love you and I love dopey. Hope we can actually get closer as you continue to be a major part of my life with this wonderful podcast. My favorite podcasts‼️‼️‼️

  • Dopey Podcast
December 27, 2018 by belllau1 from United States

Dave, The Dopey Podcast has been keeping me company for the last two-ish weeks. I’m an un-afflicted mother of a 24 year old heroin/any drug he can find addict. My niece told me about the podcast and I’ve been hooked since the first listen. My son is 90 days clean after years of drug abuse, countless troubles with the law, and an overall miserable existence for all who love him...to say I’m thrilled is the biggest understatement there is. I listened to the episodes around Chris’s tragic death first and found I had to start from the beginning. You both have taught me so much, given me more laughs than I ever expected, and given me hope in spite of the heartbreaking loss of Chris and Todd. Keep strong Dave and keep doing what you were born to do, you have a gift...both of you did. I know how sad and angry you must be without Chris, however, this podcast has made a huge difference in the lives of so many. Stay strong Dopey Nation and TOODLES!!! ❤️

Dave - I found Dopey after listening to dr drew and bob’s podcast. I became a fan of Dopey after the Artie interview, being a stern fan since 2008 (I’m 30). I now cannot not listen after Chris passed away and have listened to dozens and dozens of episodes in the past week or so. I struggle. Your show is helping me help myself. I’m doing much better and if there weren’t people like you and bob and drew, I would be having a much harder time staying abstinent. With heroes like Keith Richards and Junkie artists and authors etc, I wanted to live like them. I now want to live like the artists and creatives who’ve made it through addiction. I relate to that more and it’s a blessing. You create a space and platform for these people to share. Thank you for continuing this Dave. Dave, thank you and keep doing what you do. Jimmy

Just started listening to “dopey” I’m on episode 30 and I can not believe how entertaining it is! Honestly this is the first podcast I have ever listened to and I found it by google searching funny drug stories and it was rite. This podcast is so funny if you wanna hear funny stories about drugs. But not only does it have funny stories but it has true stories about drug abuse and rehabilitation that will tug at your heart strings. I hated podcast until I found thins. Greatest podcast ever! Stay strong dopey nation

October 29, 2018 by KelleyWills from United States

Dave is a hilarious host with a big heart. He takes on recovery from a personal perspective that is rarely seen or heard in the media. Anyone that has experience with addiction and/or recovery (be it personal or through friends and family) will relate to the crazy shameless stories that Dave and his friends recount. The path to recovery isn't always pretty but it's important that these stories be shared so others who are dealing with the similar situations can get the courage to reach out. Dopey is a valuable resource and an excellent reminder to stay strong!

  • Great Podcast
October 27, 2018 by Akron's finest from United States

Easy to give the show 5 Stars. Tragic, hilarious, helpful all in one. Dave is doing an amazing job keeping the much needed show going, in spite of Chris’s tragic death. I suggest starting at the beginning and listening to all of the episodes, but you can start from the latest episode and still be entertained. The show is a combination of stories of addiction, stories of recovery and Dave hilariously hating on someone or something. The show tells stories that addicts and recovering addicts can uniquely relate to.

I’ve been listening to Dopey for a couple of years now and Chris’s death was a lot harder on me than a “stranger’s” death normally is on someone. But Dave is doing an amazing job with the show. I’m not afflicted but Dopey is so good that even someone who is not afflicted can relate to all of the themes of the show such as emotional struggles, numbing emotional pain, dealing with pain through humor, etc. Great job Dave and keep it going! Dopey nation loves you!!

So when my lady showed me this podcast a while ago, I instantly got attached. Something about the chemistry that Chris and Dave had, just got me. This podcast got me in a way that I can’t explain. Words won’t work. It gives me a sense of comfort and also keeps me on my toes with humility and fear of my addiction. Again, words won’t work. Thank you to the whole Dopey team! -Josh

I can’t begin to thank you and Chris (May he Rest In Peace) for making this podcast. I tried listening about a year ago and couldn’t do it b/c of the triggers. It wasn’t until I heard Dave’s interview by one of my faves, Omar Pinto, after Chris’s passing. I cried and cried listening to it and started my journey back listening to Dopey from the beginning. It took me a while to catch up and I was scared to listen to the episodes after Chris. You guys were amazing. I had a lot more sobriety under my belt and could handle the crazy stories and even relate to a few. You even helped me get help for a couple more addictions and gave me confidence and hope for a better life. Dave, thank you for keeping this going. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to lose a friend like Chris. I’m learning how special recovery friends are and he seemed like pure gold. Keep being you and living life sober! You inspire so many people and set an amazing example for the next generation, believe it or not. Much Love and Support! ✌?

If you have an addictive nature or not you can’t help but become hooked on Dopey. Nothing fake to the show, telling it how it is. Tough times shared by good people caught up in a vicious epidemic, showing there is hope out there. This pod cast is truly a service for all in need dealing with addiction, those on the other side trying to “Stay Strong” and the rest to understand what our brothers and sisters are going through. Last episode with Dave’s better half was amazing. Her truth in her words could be felt and the picture painted was vivid (I'm not just talking about choice of documentaries she chooses to watch... ) hope to hear more! I wanted to let you know how powerful and meaningful this show has become. I am an addiction counselor in Colorado and I have shared the podcast with colleagues and clients alike. I am so so sorry about Chris. The shows posted about his tragic loss have been so important to me and hearing you, Dave, on your show, Dr. Drew’s and most recently on Omar’s show... I can absolutely feel your pain and I am in awe on your resilience and commitment to your recovery. You are so eloquent and you paint a vivid picture of a true, deep and meaningful friendship. You are very much meant to be a talk show host, you have the gift. Please know how grateful I am for this show, your open candidness in sharing Chris’s story and walking us all so beautifully through your own experience with it. This show makes a true difference and I know his death will not be in vain. It will touch so many people and help lift others into the frequency of recovery. My sincerest condolences to everyone affected by this. Stay strong Dopey Nation, tootles ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

September 15, 2018 by Donner316 from United States

Hi Dave - I’ve been listening to your podcasts since about the time of Chris’s tragic and unnecessary death. My sincerest, tardy condolences. I’m a daughter of, mother to and spouse of alcoholic / addicts. I have fortunately not been afflicted by drugs & alcohol (can’t hardly catch a buzz even when I want too). Your podcasts help me so very much. I don’t understand my loved ones much of the time (yes, I have 6+ years al anon) but I know that my best next decision is to get out of their way and to not provide them with a soft landing. But what mom doesn’t want to feed her sons and clean up their messes? Ugh. Anywho - I have only listed to 15 or so podcasts so just learning to love more addicts and wanting to help your callers, emailers and guest. But I won’t ?. I enjoy parts of, if not all of the postcards. My spouse cannot understand why I’m enjoying the pods. It’s comforting and provides so much hope to me .... If you ever want to hear Dopey stories from the other side of the story - let me know and I’ll share some of my favorites. Stay strong and be kind to yourselves. Know that you are all loved fiercely by someone who is addicted to addicts ❤️ Thank you and all those who help with the podcasts!! Keep ‘em coming.

September 9, 2018 by JoachGofy from United States

I’ve been listening to this podcast for a while, and it never gets old. It’s a piece of my week that I always look forward to. When I hear “If I’m Not Home” start playing in the beginning, it’s a euphoric comfort that I wish I could put in a jar and keep with me all of the time. I can’t imagine the heartache Chris’ friends and family are going through, but I’m glad Dave is still trekking on. This podcast means a lot to me. I know it’s helped people all over the world, and I’m glad to hear Dave’s voice when things in life get rough. I love Dopey, I hope more people that need support in recovery or finding recovery can hear Dopey. Stay strong Dopey Nation, and toodles.

  • Keep it up
September 8, 2018 by HVACextraordinaire from United States

When I got together with my chick, she disclosed that she struggles with an addiction to pills, but was on suboxone. I've been a daily stoner with a handful of forays into coke, lsd, mushrooms, and peyote, but don't consider myself afflicted. I initially began researching addiction, just to understand how to be a supportive, and understanding partner without being enabling or codependent. This podcast has helped me understand addiction more than any other resource I have come across, and has definitely made me far more compassionate towards people struggling to survive. Not to mention it's one of the funniest things I have heard in years. With the passing of Chris, Dave seems to be struggling to find his groove, but so did Pink Floyd when Syd left. Keep at it Dave, this podcast will save lives.

I've listened to this podcast for a while now. I grew up in a household with a parent that had an alcohol addiction and listening to this lifted the curtain to the other side. I hadn't listened in a while and just happened to pick up on the episode with Amber, when I found out about Chris. I am so saddened to hear about his death, but I am thankful that the show is carrying on. You help so many people!

Found podcast just browsing and started listening from beginning- it’s hard to explain the attraction of this show, but It has kept me riveted (and laughing) even when it has been annoying. Losing one of the hosts, Chris, to a recent overdose has made this a different show (I’m giving it a chance, though Chris was the main attraction for me) the older shows are definitely worth listening to. RIP Chris- your story is still helping others, and this podcast only highlights how much we lost with your passing.

Dave, I listen to several of your podcasts. I am not an addict in any way. I do listen all the time to Dr. Drew which is where I heard about Chris and your podcast. I was very sad to hear about Chris. I am sad for you and the whole Dopey community. I hope you will continue to do what you do. You are making an impact to those who need it. Also it may be cathartic for you to do the podcast. Awesome that Dr. Drew and Bob Forrest call into your show. Be good to yourself and remember Dr. Drew’s advice.

  • Real as it gets
August 10, 2018 by NannyHead from United States

During a bender, I would listen at work last month(I would sneak off and do drugs at work) (and also drink alcohol before church), got caught up from the beginning between new episodes after Artie Lange. After the scatterbrained dopey, I managed to clean myself up (With the help of loperamide). Tuned in a couple weeks after to two episodes about Chris passing. Really brought a reality to this podcast. It was truly the most bizarre podcast experience I have encountered. I was in rough shape, and my last review did not make much sense. Now with a clear head it is very strange to go back in the shows and pick up on the warning signs from Chris , especially when the reviews were being read and he quickly moved on past the one concerned about the sound of his voice. Dave thank you for continuing Dopey and carrying the torch through such a tough time. I believe you will be the salt of dopey and carry a legacy that will be enjoyed by many. Like seriously this podcast is as real as it gets. Tudes

August 7, 2018 by _colleen_marie from United States

Hands down one of my favorite podcasts. I love that Chris and Dave are able to have the perfect mix of war stories and crazy and then somehow turn it back into recovery and how awesome that is as well. Some days I want to listen for the insanity and end up hearing an amazing tidbit of recovery, and some days I want to listen for the recovery and find myself laughing hysterically at the debauchery. No other podcast keeps me engaged the way this one does, I can listen for hours! Also, the love and support that Dopey Nation has for one another is just another amazing aspect and truly shows how this isn’t just another podcast, it’s changing peoples lives for the better. Thank you for sharing your lives with us and Chris’s wisdom will continue to live on in these episodes.?

Dear Dave, I can’t express in words how much you mean to me - I know that you don’t know me but you are inspiring and generous and I am so sorry for your loss of Chris. It’s unbelievable what happened and I have to say thank you to you and to Annie for your courage and your generosity -in sharing the terrible truth with all of us. Dopey has become a beacon of hope for me and for many other people. You and Chris show true friendship and your joy is palpable. Please please continue the show- it is making a difference. Much love to you and to Annie and to everyone in the Dopey nation.

If you are interested in observing the recovery process intertwined with humor this is the podcast for you! Easy to follow, these thoughtful and profound explorations into the voices of addiction recovery are an essential listen. Offering a very realistic and empathetic look into addiction. It essential for people to understand the daily struggle of addiction. A reminder that this is a terminal illness.

July 26, 2018 by Bailey_ferg25 from United States

I am heartbroken about Chris’ passing. He was truly a special soul who offered so much and really reached out to me. He showed me that addiction can afflict pain on anyone, even the rich, smart, future doctor. Addiction is no joke, but Chris and Dave kept it light hearted and hilarious. Truly anyone remotely interested in the life of a drug addict will love Dopey for the crazy stories and hilarious banter. Again, we miss you Chris and hope that everyone can see the true danger of addiction. Stay strong Dave. Stay strong dopey nation.

  • Amazing
July 25, 2018 by Drewski of the Dopey Nation from United States

This has been my favorite podcast since I started listening at episode 15. Dave has been a real great influence in my life after I met him through a job almost 5 years ago. After a few recent tragedies that have hit the dopey nation very hard, I want to make sure that no matter what happens from here on out, that this is amazing content that can help anyone in life, even for those who are in the midst of addiction, have had a past, or it has never been a part of their life. Two great people wanting nothing but the best for others. We could all use some positivity to counteract the tragedy that comes with being a part of this crazy world; what better way to bring the positivity, than comedy and looking at the absurdity of life and the time that we spend on this big blue marble. Stay strong dopey nation, and out of respect for a great human being, “toooodles”.

I don't use itunes but had nothing to do for once so wanted to write a review. Best podcast out there. Been listening for over a year now. I get great joy from the 2 of you talking about your drug stories and just day to day life. I'm a bit younger then Chris but find it very funny on how many things he's never heard. Hope his history can help others by having the understanding of what drugs can do. Dave is one of the funniest mother fers I have listened to in my life. I love the no PC take on life and just calling it like it is. Also to that Canadian who's email you guys read. I don't take any offence to you comments about Canada. Stay Strong Dopey Nation from Victoria, British Columbia Canada. Better go before my igloo melts from all the heated created by my computer. Toodles EH!

July 19, 2018 by Carrierbird from United States

Chris & Dave are doing the hard work for us. This podcast needs to be made available to smart & smarmy kids alike. No one can save anybody else but these guys can help us laugh at ourselves and help educate and humiliate each other, which is, in fact, the only way to save ourselves. PS: I’ll kill anybody who gives less than a 5-Star review. I’m a postman, so I’ve got it in me. Don’t tempt this addict!

You two are completely amazing! Thank you so much for the podcasts and the humor you bring to a world I know to well. I’m an addict as well and it’s refreshing what you guys are doing. I’d love to do a voicemail for the show, I have so much in common with Todd that listening to you guys talk about him when he passed made me feel as if I’ve known Todd my whole life. I am Bryan but also Todd. If that makes sense. I thank you guys so much. Dave and chris thank you!!

The guys do a good show! The content is great. The guys need to stay close to the microphones or get better mics. Usually one is very loud and the other is just the opposite. It just is crazy when I turn up to listen to one comment and when the other person speaks it so loud I almost wreck the truck. Anyway I think it’s a great show.

Best episode to date.. killer episode with Artie Lange .. the best podcast about drugs and addiction... keep coming with the great guests.

  • THEY GOT ARTIE
July 8, 2018 by Stagpipes from United States

The show’s value has never been more evident than listening to the Artie Lange episode. Don’t think there’s an interview where Artie is more candid (or comfortable) reflecting on his ongoing struggle with addiction. While the show has never been overly preachy re: 12-step stuff, this episode reveals the best part of meetings - those “Me too” moments that evoke feelings of connection and community, and are so important in our individual recoveries. So stoked to see how this podcast has evolved, and grateful to be along for the ride.

  • Artie Lange!

July 1, 2018 by Erinkleinschmidt007 from United States

This podcast is perfect for addicts, normies, and SMI ridden individuals of all variety. They are hilarious, down to earth, and bring into their show a variety of their friends in all stages of recovery. Chris and Dave, along with their guests, invite you into lives and catching up with them will quickly become the highlight of your day. I have been listening for about a month and a half and have listened to episodes 1-110 and the tribute to Todd (Dave I’m so so sorry for your loss) and I will be tuned in to every episode made. (PS- Chris and Dave! I just got to the episode where you discuss the internship contest! If the position isn’t filled, I would love you be considered. I will start my week of emailing just in case and to give a more detailed email. I didn’t want to contact you guys until I finished all the episodes (I dunno why I’m just neurotic like that) and were up to date but I can’t wait! I’m excited to hopefully be in contact with you guys. I adore you both and your podcast)

  • Great Stories from Great Storytellers
June 25, 2018 by DLFORTYTWO from Canada

My wife got me hooked to this podcast about a couple of months ago and it has made the countless hours stuck in traffic, not only bareable, but actually enjoyable. Neither myself, nor my wife, are afflicted, but we both understand the appeal of not having to deal with life in general. Both Dave and Chris are incredibly relatable, and their chemistry and banter is amazing, great shtick too :). These guys expose the real lives of a segment of society most of us never encounter, not in any great detail anyways. The stories are hillarious, terrifying, and unreal, but hope, humanity, and compassion are never too far off. I'm currently on episode 82 and was going to leave a review once I caught up, but I couldn't hold off any longer. Looking forward to the next 80 episodes :) Thank you both!

  • So so needed
June 25, 2018 by Swineclass from United States

The struggle between being a ‘bad influence’ etc. vs. being yet another typically sanctimonious ‘recovery’ podcast is really validating and perfectly illustrates the Soul of Addiction Herself. I only just discovered this and love it. I now return to my binge.

What you guys are doing is genius and a great alternative to meetings, although those are good as well. Keep on building the Dopey Nation and it will absolutely be something big. I have been listening to y’all from the beginning and in that period of time I lost my brother to a self-inflicted gun shot wound and then I went through extreme benzo withdrawals (Research chemical clonazolam and prescribed Klolopin. When I first started listening to you two, it was more out of curiosity. I never would have thought I was serendipitously learning the road map for what I was about to go through. I also wanted to address the potentially underrated Episode with Harris Wittles. If you have not heard it yet, my favorite two podcast episodes of all time are the two he did with Pete Holmes. It is a very remarkable glimpse into his life and mind, as well as an accurate report on the heroin crisis. Thank you for your help from me and all the other loyal listeners. Love y’all, God Bless and Toodles! P.S. Do you have a confirmed spelling for toodles? -Brock

June 9, 2018 by PhillipSMI from United States

I tried writing a much more extensive review about a month ago, but for some reason (either iTunes hates me, or I’m electronically illiterate. Probably the latter) it didn’t get uploaded. So here’s my shortened second attempt. This is an awesome podcast. Dave and Chris are thoroughly entertaining. Their chemistry is so good. I come away from every episode with a smile. If you’re interested in drugs and/or recovery and everything that revolves around the two, you won’t be disappointed. I wasn’t.

I love the show, and I love the banter between Chris and Dave. I enjoy that the show isn’t over produced or too linear. It would lose its authenticity otherwise. I listen to the podcast every morning on my way to the methadone clinic. I haven’t used a needle in over six months. I am eager to taper and move on with my life though. Thanks for keeping me company on my 45 minute commute, keep doing what you do. -Augusta Grace

Hey guys. I have been listening for a short while- I actually was looking for Artie Lange related anything and I found you somehow! I'm a huge Stern show listener, particularly the Artie years. I caught on right away for a few reasons- I am a food addict, in recovery and working the steps so I relate to a lot of the obsessive behaviours. Combine that w being a lover of all things addiction: like black tar heroin doc, intervention.. I am fascinated with war stories. But I also love the balance of recovery talk too. How life can be better sober and why and how. I listen to every word, the banter, the self-depreciation. It all works. You have something really special going on here. It's real, and honest and funny and I plan to spread the word that this is a podcast with so much to offer. Thanks guys stay strong dopey nation.

Love the show! I’ve listened to every episode from the beginning. Not much an addict myself, but my significant other, and father of my daughter had a heroin addiction the first year of our daughters life, that he thankfully overcame. This show has really helped me through the hard times, and made me laugh at the same time! After hearing the reference of one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, that I quote all the time myself I just had to write a review! I love you both equally, and the banter between you guys is what makes the show! Keep up the great work! Toodles! ( I got my daughter saying toodles, too btw! )

I listen to this podcast daily while getting on with my job, I'd consider myself a normie but have dabbled in all the party stuff and have a few daft stories so I can appreaciate the stories which these 2 guys talk about, but it's not just about the stories the banter and general chemistry between these 2 guys makes what ever they're talking about interesting and funny and are creating a communinty to help people in recovery and be an beacon to people to show that there can be a life on the other side of addiction.

I’m not a fan of some of some of your guests. I feel like Chris and Dave often time just aren’t vibing with them as well as they do when they told their stories in the beginning episodes. Jessa changes this. Her story was wild, and Chris and Dave seemed super excited by the amount of dopey. You definitely need more guests like her on the podcast. Still love your show and listen every week... tootles, I guess.

  • Brilliant funny Cool Podcast
May 4, 2018 by tommy2bagz from United States

Dear Dave & Chris, Your show is so good. It helps to have a safe outlet for telling old drug fueled adventure tales, because it can be dangerous telling old stories as a clean and sober person. A) because other sober meeting people don’t want to hear them and B) cause if your swapping old tales to someone who still uses, it can be tempting to hear them with no resolve, and the next thing you know... you can relapse. But your show really does acknowledge why our old ways got us in trouble and ruined our lives. And you do give advice to get better (while also making fun of it all) I appreciate your guys humor because i grew up on similar situations. You 2 remind me of me and my friend recalling our weekend back when. Not to compare Dopey to Seinfeld, but kinda like if George and Jerry were Addicts, and Kramer also. I think you get the point. I am gonna leave a voice mail of my stories. Love to meet you guys some day. -Tommy from Long Island PS. Maybe i should have emailed this?

May 2, 2018 by Rounzie from United States

Hey I'm a psychologist specializing in addiction treatment and I absolutely love this podcast. These guys are a glorious messy exploration of addiction and recovery. They practice radical acceptance and honesty about all aspects of problems with substances. To me they thread the needle of talking about all the craziness that goes along with addiction without glorifying it or condemning the people still stuck using. Highly recommended to anyone trying to stop using and all professionals to get some perspective of recovery from the the other side.

March 25, 2018 by Safroim from United States

Great chemistry between Chris and Dave. I've been listening for a few weeks and have made it up to episode 117. I love that they are gaining some traction in the recovery world by interviewing celebrities. I look forward to listening to the Dr. Drew episode. However, I hope they don't abandon their humble beginnings. I think the first 50 epidoes are the ones that are going to resonate with the non-celebrity afflicted.A wide variety of those in recovery would be great too. Most of their guests are friends they met in rehab. Those guests bring some good dopey stories, but the are all very similar. Inpoatient rehab, get life togetherand now are doing well with jobs and a family. My affliction didn't fully consume me until I was in my early thirties. I already had children, a job, a house and spent years trying to hide my affliction from my community, I certrainly wasn't able to hide it from my kids which could be a whole episode in and of itself. There are lots of directions for you boys to go, please just keep it real.

  • Cringe worthy - I still love you
March 23, 2018 by Twelvestepper3 from United States

Let me preface this by saying as usual that I still love you guys. But drooling over dr drew is not a good look. He may be an intelligent physician but his work is biased. Drew says “use Suboxone to stay alive but not if you want quality of life. I’d rather put you on marijuana maintenance”. Dangerous, ignorant statement. I don’t treat patients at the scope he does but I live this life! I work with/treat others on Suboxone. I have two RN jobs... critical care and a college instructor. I have two home businesses. I have a daughter in college. I travel frequently, I ski, run, and coach others in recovery. I facilitate Refuge recovery. No quality of life??? Am I a total outlier? The only person doing well and everyone else on sub is wasting away? Imagine switching me to mj maintenance... you think my life quality would improve?? If I’m the only person out there doing well, I’ll shut up about it. Really. I must be superhuman or something. I’m not even really an advocate to go ON it, but I’m definitely against the negative stigma. Also... drew. AA is great. Yay 12 steps. But we don’t have to live with that status quo! We don’t have to go to meetings that don’t work for us or don’t make sense...staying silent to fit in and never making authentic progress. There are other options!!! Would it be so bad if AA started making changes to fit people’s needs vs people changing/hiding/lying to try and fit in toa dogmatic meeting,?? Chris and Dave you’re better than this. I love your show, I tell everyone about it. But I also tell them to skip that episode. A few times you guys tried to say how you really felt... but it didn’t fit Drew’s opinion, so you banked down. You’re better than that. Way better. Stay strong dopeys.

  • Amazingly honest drug and recovery show
March 22, 2018 by Dmann8383 from United States

These guys, the hosts Chris and Dave, have put together something Truly special. Even more special and absolutely needed for this generation of people and the addiction mindset that society has created over the past 20 years. The way they are able to weave the insane stories of us addicts, while in active addiction, and keep a strong message of recovery alive throughout the podcast is amazing. To anyone wanting or thinking of taking drugs for the first time, I wouldn’t recommend this podcast. For the lonely addict in or out of recovery I would recommend this podcast above all others. The honesty of the show is exactly what we in recovery need to hear. Often times, I hear others stories and think, “wow I’m never touching substances again so that I never get to the point of them and some of their guests.” With the years of recovery between them, they show how happiness is possible after drugs just by hearing their friendship and banter every episode. It is Truly beautiful. Stay strong Dopey Nation!

I have been listening nonstop since I found this podcast last week. I am not an addict but recently lost a cousin to the disease. I’ve always been interested in the psychology behind drug use and this podcast has given me some of that along with lots of laughs and a deeper knowledge of so many aspects of addiction. The rapport between these guys is amazing, so real and super easy to listen to! I may have a little crush on them! ?

March 12, 2018 by ianGfromSTL from United States

I love the dynamic between Dave and Chris. They balance out the comedy of the drug stories with the serious nature of such material perfectly. Dave is the John Lennon of the show. Chris is the heart throb (more of a Paul McCartney) As a drug addict, in recovery myself, I see these guys as kindred spirits and in fact, I admire them. But anyone could enjoy this podcast, even for pure voyeuristic indulgence.

I’m an Australian mental health clinician who has been in recovery for 6 months from a 20 year stimulants addiction. For me this show is a massive part of my continued journey back into being present in my life instead of constantly chasing what isn’t. To Dave and Chris, and Chris and Dave, keep talking DOPEY!

I started listening to this a few months after getting out of rehab. I was looking for some supplemental 12 step stuff since I wasn't getting to very many meetings. What I found was so much better. It's very reminiscent of the conversations in the smoking area at rehab. I'm glad you guys are still doing this, also I'm approaching 1 year clean this month, so thanks for whatever part your podcast played in that. Stay strong Dopey Nation!

Currently binging through all these episodes, and I can’t get enough. The romance for the nostalgic stories, paired with straightforward encouragement to live soberly, is guaranteed to make a kindred person smile every time and feel a little more connected in this world. We are lucky to hear the stories and get to know you guys through Dopey!

February 10, 2018 by Gabe R Thomas from Canada

A friend recommended Dopey to me about 10 times over the past few months and I finally caved and quickly found myself listening to almost every episode. At first I was just getting a kick out of the war stories, as I almost never hear that kind of stuff anymore at 2+ years sober. After a few weeks of listening began to realize that Dave calling out Chris for his flaws/defects has been serving to point out some areas in my own life I haven't addressed, it's almost therapeautic hearing Dave berate Chris about stuff that I do myself. I'm now seeking help for some of these behaviours that I didn't even really identify until hearing Dave excoriate Chris publically about them. Thanks for creating such an accessible Podcast, this recovering coke fiend booze bag truly appreciates it!

I can't say I was immediately hooked (of course, "hooked"), but the show grew on me and now I absolutely love it and I think I need it. I started listening when I using, continued to listen during 6 months clean following an OD, I listened to it during a 5 month relapse, and I'm listening today with 5 days under my belt. That doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement, but Chris and Dave are so genuine and lovable - They have given me hope, made me laugh out load, and at least for today - I feel like I'm going to make it! Love the new intro - just hope it doesn't get too polished - perfect the way it is guys!

January 31, 2018 by MagicDragon38 from United States

I highly recommend that you listen to the newest episodes first and if you want go back. I made a mistake and started with episode 1 and in my early stages of sobriety I was impatient and very irritable. I ripped off a bad review which Dave read on episode 114 I believe. I’m MagicDragon 38 and I’m glad I didn’t unsubscribe. This podcast has made me laugh out loud in public places and got me through some bad times. I hang on the edge of my seat during story times and I overreacted to Dave’s intrusive behavior. It gets so much better as they get better and trust me no one is ever hot out of the box with anything when your first starting out. I listen everyday. Love it! Both Dave and Chris are great so don’t give up if you start from the beginning.

  • Binge dopey not dope
January 27, 2018 by itsprobablyascruffle from United States

Dopey is one of the most genuinely endearing podcasts I’ve ever had the privilege to experience. The undeniable chemistry between the two hosts Dave and Chris make this podcast worth the week long binge it takes to start from episode one to being current. The evolution of the show and the hosts dynamic is worth the listen alone. Listening to two people working through their own recoveries is inspiring. Dopey isn’t your typical recovery podcast, you don’t feel preached at while listening. Instead you feel comforted by others ability to voice the depraved things addiction lead them to do. Dave and Chris’ humorous way of facing the darkness of addiction is unparalleled. I highly recommend giving dopey a try because it’s life changing.

Decided I would be one of the ten that listened to Dave and actually wrote a review. I think this podcast is great, I’ve listened to it since the beginning and I listen every Sunday it comes out. The authenticity of the podcast is what I love. Two smart and funny guys in recovery telling and listening to stories from the darker times of addiction. They also occasionally have guests. It’s a great podcast if your just starting to get sober.

Been listening since around episode 10 - this is easily the longest ive listened to a single podcast. I've enjoyed witnessing the evolution of Dave and Chris and the show over that time, and it's helped me come to terms with my own using and make some moves into recovery. Hopefully this gets us to more reviews than Omar? Nah SHAIR is ok too, i've just started checking that one out. Peace and love from another from the Dopey Australia chapter

January 16, 2018 by lexicantfindanickname from United States

Dave and Chris are absolutely hilarious. I love their friendship that you can really feel and experience for yourself while listening to the show. It’s the very essence of their characters that makes the show so worthwhile. They express with such rawness the struggle of living with addiction while incorporating humor and shining a light on the possibility of recovery. It’s a great harm deduction tool, as long with helping you feel connected to others without physically having to go into the rooms. I know it’s brought a lot of joy and positivity into my life and I highly suggest everyone to check it out. Whether you’re a drug addict, in recovery, or even anyone else who just enjoys a good laugh!

  • Understanding Dave
January 12, 2018 by Pantsman5000 from New Zealand

I love this podcast. always an entertaining, easy listening, crazy and fun experience which could easily compared to just hanging out with your mates. When I first started listening (from episode 1), I found Dave a little difficult at times with his interrupting and being hard on Chris, but like most first impressions I was proved wrong. Dave cares, is funny and talented musician with Good So Bad getting stuck in my head all the time. When it really clicked for me though is when Daves father came on the podcast. He's exactly the same as Dave and I feel like a somehow understood Dave more from this. His origins. Anyway. Great podcast, and Chris you're awesome too, but I thought that from the start. Stay strong dopey nation. AJ

These guys are funny, authentic, and honest about their experiences. They get into great discussions about their own and other’s past drug use and recovery, and even when they go off topic it’s still entertaining. This podcast has helped me stay clean because Chris and Dave are realistic and don’t shove recovery down your throat...but they strongly recommend you stay strong, don’t die, and get clean. I’d recommend this podcast to anyone who is new to recovery or still on the fence, binge listening to this got me through some of my hardest days.

  • Stay Strong!
November 23, 2017 by friend of the cast from United States

While listening to the most recent casts and trying to catch up with the early one's I'm struck by how much Chris and Dave have have evolved along with the podcast. Still compeling with its hilarious retelling of past debauchery, the show has moved towards a stabilizing force of recovery as both its hosts have as well. They both feel more comfortable and confident in their supportive roles to their listeners and guests as we hear them provoke and support each other and the "Dopey Nation" as a whole. With over 100 episodes under their belt, Dave and Chris are providing not only a vital non-judgemental anti-preachy forum for those struggling with addiction, but also a model for other podcasts where people hear bravely honest stories allowing them to laugh and at times cry (both of which I have done while listening). Chris's encyclopedic knowledge of drugs and addiction and Dave's insistance on maintaining an emotionally genuine dynamic between the two brilliant hosts has made this pioneering podcast one of the best, not only for addicts and their family, but for anyone looking for help understanding the epidemic now sweeping the United States.

YO DOPEY NATION-I found this podcast while searching the self-help category of podcasts in iTunes. (NOT the comedy section) Compared to all the sterile, overtly Christian, “inspirational” recovery/addiction podcasts out there, DOPEY is a breath of fresh air! I’m really into story telling podcasts and listening to you guys and your guests share the “dark humor” of addiction is really fascinating. You guys tell it like it is and your stories are both raw and hilarious. Keep up the great work! Dopey is LIT ?

I'm a normie with a best friend who is afflicted. He's made me experience bad and great things I never would have before, but he also showed me Dopey and it really opened my eyes towards addiction and how it effects people differently. Chris and Dave are Gs til the end. They're both very real people who aren't afraid to make good points and bring very dark topics into light. You have to be willing to talk about something in order to conquer it, and Dopey is proof of that. Although some episodes might be boring, you guys have recognized it and work to improve. Keep going and doing that. You guys have already helped more people than you realize and I hope you truly understand it. Thanks guys :)

October 20, 2017 by Dylanmorrow from Canada

Okay - you got me - I may have used that title to get your attention, but it's important.... Dave - your interrupting is what makes you, you! Keep killing it. Chris - your stories are outstanding. Gentlemen, keep doing what you're doing. I started listening to this podcast to listen to funny using stories.... I had know idea that it would lead to me finding help and beginning my path to recovery. It's encouraged me to change my life... just a little podcast, with life changing power. Thank you for everything you do! Please refer to me as "D" if you read his review on the show. A shoutout would mean a lot. Thank you so much! In EP 102 Dave kills it (not in a good way) by literally interrupting Chris 6 times in a row when Chris is trying to actually get the show going ... instead it turns into a senseless ramble about marshmallows and Chris’ mispronunciation of Reese’s.... just let Chris speak ... please ! September 22, 2017 by Dangerously Z from United States

I'm what Dave and Chris call a "Normie." At least I think I'm a Normie. I have a drinking habit, which I think a lot of moms have nowdays, but hard to tell if it's an addiction. Maybe I'm in denial. I found your podcast through your Instagram, which a recovering Twitter friend rt'd. Your Instagram is the BEST!! Your podcast gives a more complete picture of addiction and recovery, not just the headlines and statistics that are broadcast into our lives every day. I was very tortured while I was bingeing on your earliest podcasts; searching for the "missing episodes." At first I was sure that there was some mathematical genius behind the numbering, and then after some patient listening I learned of the omissions. If the episodes aren't lost forever, I hope you'll share them someday. Good or bad, our experiences are what made us who we are today. It's great how Chris & Dave carry on like an old married couple; quarrelsome one minute and caring and supportive the next. I love that every episode is "the worst." I'm slowly catching up to current podcasts while taking road trips and finishing projects around the house, and I'm so happy to have Dave & Chris by my side at every turn. Stay strong Dopey Nation! Having been to the deep end of selfishness and addiction, it's refreshing and insightful to listen to Chris and Dave telling their stories so truthfully. What better feeling than being able to look back and laugh. This podcast is a highly entertaining blend of disorganization and hilarity, never boring!

Dave & Chris, Thanks for the laughs! Canada loves you, at least my girlfriend and I do. This show hits home to anyone that has stayed up for days then looked in the mirror afterwards. While a podcast on addiction isn't, and probably shouldn't be funny, it can be hilarious, Dave and Chris know that, and aren't ashamed to share.. (looking at you chris with the puddle water) There has to be a better way! In all seriousness these two can help anyone from the part time partiers that think they have it in check, to the long term vets that need to put it in check. You guys are proof of how sobriety WILL change your life, and it never hurts to laugh at yourself, keep up the good work guys toooooooodles

Dopey is not only the greatest podcast I have ever listened to in my life, but perhaps the greatest thing to ever grace the face of the earth. When I listen to that first episode of Dopey in the morning the rush I get is better than IV heroin hands down! Dave and Chris are geniuses, their style and grace is unmatched and they are probably the two most powerful human beings in the known 23 universes. I hope they continue making new episodes for the rest of their eternal lives!

August 9, 2017 by RyMerr from United States

For the recovering addict and alcoholic, this podcast recounts the complete insanity of the disease and the great lengths we go through to obtain our drug of choice. Chris and Dave tell hilarious, sad, and scary stories of active addiction while keeping it entertaining and captivating with friendly banter and a sincerity that is unmatched. If you're looking for a reminder of what it was like, a way to keep it green, or simply a laugh; tune in and hold onto your seat. You're in for one hell of a ride. Keep up the great work guys!

August 7, 2017 by goodloufinds from United States

Most of my experiences with talking about using and recovery have been so guilt-ridden and shameful that I've completely turned off even attempting to talk about it, listening or even spend time with anyone that has dealt with addiction. But now - this podcast (that I listened to on a complete whim) takes all that shame away for me and switched my experiences into a sort of "I survived splash mountain" t-shirt. Thank you for your work and what you give people. See ya!

I just had to say something about the last episode. I find it so weird that Dave hasn't heard of heroin being measured in "points". How do u know how much you are getting? "Bags"? How much is in a bag? How many bags in a bundle? Why do u east coasters have to make things so complicated? lol I'm from California and have always been confused when u guys mention buying a said number of bags. So if u had 80 bucks u would get a # of different bags? In California we would get 1 gram (for 80 bucks) in one bag. Have listened to every episode at least once and never thought of writing a review, but once I heard that Dave never heard the phrase "points of heroin" I felt compelled to ask. Anyways you guys are doing a great job with the podcast and I look forward to seeing you both make it big and becoming famous. -Dre from Folsom

  • ...never enough
August 2, 2017 by mairu103 from United States

Favorite podcast by far. I used to listen to Shair and Recovery Elevator just for the dopey stories and...thank god dopey came along. I've finally arrived. TBH now I just find the other ones annoying. For one, I don't have to forward to minute 20 to get to the good stuff anymore or listen to lame stories about poodles named Ben. I don't mean to hate and I know those guys are doing a great thing for a lot of people but at this point it's just not for me. I'm not sure what I am right now honestly-a normie with afflicted tendencies? (On my best days at least) Anyway, make some more. I can never seem to get enough of a good thing. I guess we'll see. But seriously, keep it up. I'm convinced dopey will be big...for the rest of the world too... EVENTUALLY. Mucho amor, Rooster P.S. This is an edit to an earlier review that I later revisited and it gave me the creeps. I leave you with that.

sorry for the late review! This is the only podcast I've listened to where I've stuck to it and listened to all the episodes! I feel like I've gotten to know Dave and chris as I've progressed through this series. I find Dave hilarious when he does his shhhhhtick and interjects in all of chris' stories. I can relate to chris in almost every aspect of his personality except for being a drug addict (is that part of your personality? Whatever). Highly recommend to anyone who is interested in discussion of any aspect of drug culture. Keep the episodes coming guys! TOOOOOOODLES -Brandon AKA yung Arson AKA peach

June 18, 2017 by KohlerCarrie from United States

I always look forward to Saturday and a new episode of Dopey. I've been sober just over three months and was lucky to find Dopey on Day 2. As a garden variety alcoholic, I don't always relate to the dope stories but do relate to the honest feelings shared. Dave and Chris offer fresh, humble insights to recovery and their banter is hilarious. Weekends in early recovery aren't easy but Dopey helps make things a little lighter!

  • Don't judge it by the episodes at the beginning
June 8, 2017 by Fortean fan from United States

I started this podcast from ep 1 & by ep 5 or 6, I was about to give it up because I thought the original premise of nothing but "war stories" was harmful & at times a trigger. But these guys started adding discussions about recovery, & pretty quickly their message took on a feel of hope rather than dope. So I stuck with it...and I'm glad I did. It's all at once, shocking, interesting, entertaining, funny, sad, and most importantly, at the end of the day, hopeful & inspiring & brutally honest & brave. Good job Chris & Dave! Bravo! My opinion is that you are providing a much needed service & also building a community that can in many ways become accountable to each other. Including both of you! If either of you two go back out there, you'll have to come back and tell the dopey nation, that you threw it all away again! Stick with this....it's doing just as much for you two as it is for us. Be strong dopey nation & toodles! The Mayor of Buffalo

June 8, 2017 by JohnnyFartPant5 from United Kingdom

Alright fellas, just thought I would leave you a review as a way of saying thank you for all the entertainment you have brought my way since I first discovered your awesome podcast back in the day (last year). This is the best and only podcast that gets me excited when a new episode is available. The two hosts, Chris and Dave are inspirational and very funny to boot. I used to think Dave was a tad grumpy & bossy in the beginning but he's hilarious and reminds me a lot of myself. Dave, mate, you are becoming a true counter culture icon (and musical talent) and I love hearing your words of wisdom and almost child like questioning when Chris is telling a story (I am the same when someone is telling me a story). Dopey nation are a breath of fresh air in the addiction recovery field. It's raw, it's real and it can sometimes give me a rush as I vicariously relive my experiences of ecstasy and oblivion. This world needs more blokes like you two. Stay safe, Dopey nation. Toodles. JohnnyFartPants.

May 26, 2017 by Not afflicted from United States

I found this podcast about a week ago and pretty much binge listened to all the episodes. The banter between Chris and Dave is amazing, and you can visualize the insanity. I've learned a lot of random thingsunrelated to addiction and drugs, and have laughed at least 3x per an episode. Some of their stories make me grateful for being a "normie," but I'm beginning to understand a different side of addiction. I have friends that probably need some help and I hope they are listening to dopey so they won't feel alone. Also, Dave has a great voice and his music is amazing! I really hope they put the songs up on the website, iTunes or create a YouTube channel... stay strong dopey nation!

Chris' degenerate tales provide a backdrop for the witty comments and enlightened perspective from the one and only Dave. All the while, laughing harder than you thought possible at Dave's endless banter. Truly a top 3 podcast of all time.

Hey guys. It's me the doggy day care guy you mentioned for a second on a previous episode. I just wanna say, you two are both awesome and you both contribute greatly to the dopey nation. HOWEVER, Dave....dude, you are what makes it so enjoyable. Chris is super smart but, Dave has that sneaky comedy that makes it so awesome. You both have a great dynamic. But Dave is the money maker! Haha also....Chris....maybe you should compliment Dave 5 times in a row on the next episode. It would be nice to hear Dave get some praise for once. Keep your head up Dave, you rock! Also I wanted to let you two know that I just picked up my 12 month chip and you two help keep my recovery sane. So thank you. Much love and sobriety, Joshua from Tennessee ??‍♂️ tootles

The guests, emails, call ins, and voicemails you guys have during the podcast are always great and I can relate to a lot of the stories you guys talk about in some way or another. The podcast can have you in tears laughing at some points, but can also be very informative about different things people have tried in the attempts at recovery or what they do to stay sober on a daily basis. Does a great job exploring the tapestry of modern american addiction and recovery. The recovery talk is great and non-dogmatic and the war stories are endlessly entertaining. The subjects all hit close to home, from spirituality to ice cream and Seinfeld. The guests are great for adding additional voices/perspectives. As someone in active addiction its a great reminder of the camaraderie of recovery and humor central to survival in sober world. I have countless hours to listen to podcasts working as a bike messenger and dopey is a staple of my current listening world. 'So good so bad' is a killer song. Do you have the chords/lyrics accessible? Would love to learn and play it. Keep it up guys!

March 20, 2017 by Conceptuallogic from United States

At first it may be hard to get behind as it's very chaotic and Dave, let's just be straight you did interrupt a little too much in the beginning. Even Chris sounded annoyed by it. STICK WITH IT. These two catch their flow after some time, audio quality improves markedly, they realize they need to stop burping and eating while recording and the synergy between the two really comes alive. It's an interesting ride with these two, from start to current episodes, but I would suggest anyone interested in drug culture and/or anyone trying to curtail use of any substance to dive in and just ride it out. You'll be rewarded if you do. It's to the point now where I wish I didn't have to wait until every Saturday. It's not enough. Let's give these guys the support they deserve. They've got a really good thing going here.

  • Perfect recovery comedy podcast
March 19, 2017 by undeadslim from United States

Dave and Chris talk recovery and war stories in a perfect mix and balance. Each episode is better than the last and even the podcasts that don't have much happening besides them small talking about tv shows, it still works. They play really well off each other. Quality guests and good laughs throughout. Vape knocks, Chris zoning out mentally, Dave complaining about everything and nothing all at once and stories of pure debauchery. They hit you with the dopey but then temper it well with recovery. There shameless and it works. ??. Hope you guys read this online and Dave likes a certain part and asks Chris to re-read it. I find that hilarious. Keep it up guys cause if you feel your talking to a small audience your not and the dopey nation is growing.

Sorry Dave but Chris's stories are so unbelievably f@cked up that he trumps you in the storytelling department. Hats off to you two and as a few previous guests mentioned, I think your podcast is going to be big. Just give it time. February 13, 2017 by Kuntzie13 from United States

Guys, I know I have sent a couple harsh emails about the eating and stuff on the air, but I could not take it back fast enough. This has become my favorite listen, by far! I hope someday to get to meet you guys. What an awesome podcast. From a recovery standpoint I know you guys go back and forth about this being good for you or not... I just want to say I'm a big fan of laughing at mistakes and bringing them to light. There is no reason to hide from who we are and what we've done. Life is too short to let other people tell us what to do. I do understand the actual recovery part and taking advice but that's not really what I'm referring to here. Dave's dad had a special place in this show. Even though we have only heard from him a couple times... he brings in the family part of addiction and recovery, and he's great to hear on the show and your relationship with family! Keep up the good work.... forever listener here.

  • I'm hooked on Dopey
February 12, 2017 by Dani from Oregon from United States

I have to get my fix of Dopey! New to the podcast scene, I stumbled across this little gem. A wonderfully funny and somewhat shocking podcast. Dopey will have you jonesing for more. Brilliantly honest. A train wreck you can't turn away from. Before you know it, you will find yourself a part of the Dopey Nation. This podcast is straight fire!!!!! I think you have to not subscribe to podcast to leave a review on iTunes. That might be why they have 450 peeps subscribed and only 30 reviews.

January 30, 2017 by Nate Bowe from United States

You're definitely not losing me as a listener. Dopey is dope. I listen to you guys at my desk at work and it helps me get thru the day. Please continue this podcast. P.s. I would like to hear more mushroom stories and possibly how psychadelics affected u in a positive way. That has been the focus of the youth lately in my circle. And one of u takes long deep breaths into the mic and it's irritating that is all love and peace

January 27, 2017 by Yardovitch Fukofski from Australia

I'm a 45 year old Alchoholic .. I started pretty late in my life . Got married when I was 38 . Had two beautiful children. My son developed Autism . It created so much stress in our relationship. I started using Alchohol as a medication to deal with the situation. I stopped arguing with my wife about what was best for my son . She absorbed herself in his recovery. I absorbed myself in work . I love my son .. but I used alcohol to grieve for a normal life for him .. he is really good now .. intellectual .. still autistic quirks . My wife and I separated nearly two years ago .. even a couple off shots o whiskey ..a bottle hidden in the shed , it got a hold of me .. the Australian pastime . I'm still battling this demon . I go to AA . But relapse with stress . I don't drink for weeks on end . I stop when I get the demons out of my head .. guilt , regrets . But it isn't normal . I love your podcast. It's helping me with hope . Cheers boys! ( no pun intended)

  • Great podcast - but not easy
January 26, 2017 by arlinmt from United States

Was searching for podcasts dealing with recovery when I stumbled upon Dopey. Listened to the first few episodes. They were rough. Really rough. But there was something about Dave and Chris' honesty and sincerity that led me to listen more. As the step-parent of a cocaine adict (now in recovery - hopefully), the stories gave me isight into addiction that helps me better understand the disease. It's also been a joy to be watch these two grow in recovery. The episode with Dave's dad, hands down the best ever. I highly recommend the Dopey Podcast - I don't know where it's going, and I often want to send these two to their rooms without supper, but I'll continue to listen and enjoy.

To keep it simple , this podcast is great . The stories they tell are hillarious , interesting and really take you on an adventure ; you feel like you are there . Dave and Chris come across as really approachable and bounce off eachother . This is the podcast you were looking for if you're fed up with boring people talking about boring things .

January 6, 2017 by CaitlinOB from United States

Self-deprecating humor at it's best. Story telling is all about content and delivery, and while this isn't The Moth (nor is it trying to be), the disruptions and digressions only add to the Podcast. Keep it distracted, disjointed and dopey. PS- The vaping into the mic is infuriating, and yet I keep tuning in. Go figure.

  • ***Chris and Dave rule!***
January 3, 2017 by FREEFLY100 from United States

By far the most hilarious yet honest podcast I have ever encountered . Chris and Dave may not place a huge emphasis on recovering their fellow dopey nationals yet I'm convinced they are far more healing than they know. I have listed to every single episode and many more than once. I haven't found another podcast that grabs me this way. They've got something very special and I know they will only continue to skyrocket in popularity. The only thing I fear is that after 20 years of weekly hour long episodes will they one day run out of stories? They can't! Love, chyna whyte ?

  • Addicted to dopey
January 1, 2017 by Becky from Oregon from United States

Hi Dave and Chris I started listening to your podcast in April 2016. My family and I did an intervention with my 20 year old son who is addicted to heroin. He has been using needles for about four years and at the time was living in his car. I am a meth addict from the 90's and hit my rock bottom while smoking meth or crank as we Called it then. I totally understood the affliction but because of so much time passing I wasn't aware of new and different drugs that are so popular. I am a desperate to save my sons life and was in search of all the information I could get my hands on. Your podcast came up on one of my searches I started listening and right away was taken in with your charisma and the way your stories are told and the connection you have. My son started working again after a few months at home and we carpool and listen together every day. We have caught up very quickly and know look forward every time we see the red indicator on the podcast app to listen to the next one. At first my son was very reluctant to talk about his drugs and habits and routines of the past. And I of course ask a million questions and want to know everything. I'm not sure if he felt shameful or he was protecting me by not speaking out. But what I do know is that your podcast your stories and your voices everyday started a spark in my son to be ok with telling me his stories and now we have conversations, good honest healing ones. So my son and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please continue your podcasts there are so many of us listening. From one desperate parent to the millions of others out there trying to save our children give Dopey a try you won't be sorry

Awesome podcast for anyone who was/is an addict or just regular people curious about life as an addict. Dave and Chris tell ridiculous and hilarious stories from their addiction days and somehow I get more recovery motivation from Dopey than from any recovery focused podcast. Whatever struggles you're experiencing, these guys experienced it too and GOT THROUGH IT. Great podcast!

The reasons this is my favorite podcast are too long to list. I have been a fan since the beginning. Thank you Dopey for the day I googled heroin podcasts and for delivering ?❤️

Love these guys. Can't stop listening. I love the dynamic between these two men. I feel like I'm sitting in a living room with two best friends who talk too much (but actually have entertaining conversations) and I'm just sitting back and enjoying the show. Not afflicted myself but surrounded by addicts and alcoholics my whole life. It's great to find the humor in something that is way too often devastating. Thanks for the stories and laughs. Stay strong dopey nation!

  • Makes me Lol
October 26, 2016 by TroubleinParadis from United States

Nothing like getting a laugh from depravity and making a long bus commute go that much faster. Dave and Chris put a nice spin on the 2-dudes-talking genre with great interaction and guests. It's just storytelling at its finest. Give a listen for maybe the best 9-11 story I've heard yet.

October 19, 2016 by [memo] from United States

Dave gets no love. They are both equally entertaining but Dave is my fav. Thought you might need a little bit of an ego boost. Also congrats on 50! And your new mic has improved the listenability of your show by leaps and bounds. And yes. There is a big dif in quality when you switch from Omni to bi. Just an FYI. :)

I’ve been meaning to write a review for some time, but for some reason could never have them post from my phone. I’ve been listening since episode 15 and Dave & Chris get even better with time. I actually go get coffee/a pack of smokes after dinner and listen to the new episode as my Sunday evening ritual. I hope these guys never run out of stories, and it seems that they probably won’t. Support these guys all you can. And yes, the title was to stroke Dave’s ego because I dig the show *that* much.

  • Sully/That crazy otter guy.
October 16, 2016 by OtterRivers from United States

It's not a "good" show. But that's it's draw for me. I like that it's just stumbley-bumbley, made up as they go. With real terrible parts here and there. Obviously it has great parts too. But without the stinky, lame parts i wouldn't feel at home with it. It's just like REEAAALLL lol. Real dumb sometimes. And sometimes real cute. I wouldn't change it. Though I do wish it was less popular. I think it would be perfect if it was just me and maybe 30 other listeners or so. :). No celebrity guests. Haha. Jk guys. Not really but I mean, I do like you. I take long breaks so I can listen to multiple episodes in a row. Binging, you could call it... Haha. (Did u get that I chose the name sully cuz 1 of ur early episodes where you're talking about Boston and trying to force Chris to do the accent. Sully. ... That's where I got that.) Anyway glad the show is still going even though there might be too many other fans. I want to feel special u know? :) ?↔️

  • This podcast is dope!
October 1, 2016 by LesleyNYC from United States

I stumbled on this podcast when I was looking for something to listen to at work. I'm so glad I found it because it's hilarious and so relatable. I've had my issues with opiates and the law and I've been on Opioid Replacement Therapy for 3 years. I don't consider myself "sober" or "clean" because I use from time to time but the stories on this podcast definitely remind me why I got on Suboxone and try to have a more stable life. I've never done rehab and have only been to one NA meeting so that side of recovery is very interesting to hear be talked about. No one ever talks about that type of stuff outside of meetings or close friends it seems. So thanks! Sorry for the rambling review. Excited for the next podcast.

  • Great podcast.
September 27, 2016 by Death666.666.666 from United States

After hearing to write a review from you guys on almost every episode; I finally am. Listening to you guys reminiscing about your past and telling funny stories is great. Your back and forth banter and how Dave is always interrupting Chris is hilarious. Keep up with the guests; they keep a fresh voice in our ears every once in a while and it's great to hear their stories as well. With always asking for emails and joking back and forth about them; you guys should read more emails from the dopey nation! This podcast is definitely worth listening too; and I can't wait to hear more episodes. Thanks!

  • Awesome podcast!

I was on my computer looking through old messages on FaceBook. I spotted one from a guy named Chris. At first I thought he was some dude hitting on me. It turns out he's a co-host of a show called "Dopey". I looked up the premise and it was to my knowledge the only forum in which you could freely express your drug experiences. Weather they be good or bad. I knew I had both but I don't think they knew I didn't have any "clean time". Due to the forgiving nature of the show they let me on anyways. I was able to tell my side of the story. A side I hope people can relate to or at the very least laught at. Anyways, these guys are great and so is the show!

  • Amazing Podcast!
August 19, 2016 by chaseinbed from United States

I can't enough of these guys. From the stories they share to the guests they bring on, every moment (okay, most moments...) is unique and enjoyable. There's laughs, tangents, disgusting stories, and relatable moments (YMMV) - the hallmarks of a great podcast, at least for me. "Dopey" is real people having real conversations about taboo subjects that many of us have experienced and can't always talk about in everyday life. I HIGHLY recommend this podcast to any recovering or struggling addict that likes to have a good laugh at themselves and others like them. You might even find some unexpected wisdom, perspective, and understanding. No NA/AA rhetoric here - just real recovering addicts being and sharing themselves with willing listeners. 5/5, without a doubt.

  • Extremely hilarious
July 19, 2016 by Johnny Takes from United States

Hilarious stories of drug fueled mishaps. Chris and Dave are both funny. I'm addicted to this podcast! (get it?) Just check out the episode with Danny Boy from House of Pain or any of them really, they are all very entertaining. Dave has a great rambling shtick and Chris interjects hilariously. I'd go so far as to call it uproarious and very few things are uproarious but this podcast is. Get on it before everyone else does.

  • Oh the glory!
July 18, 2016 by Kajrajdidaj from Sweden

This is by far the funniest podcast I've ever listened to. The antagonistic banter between Dave and Chris, the oh so relatable stories of what you will do for drugs/drugs will make you do and the dark humor that is looking back on your life as an addict has totally done me in. I've probably listened to every episode at least 5-6 times, just to pass the time until the next one comes out. Being a Dopey junkie is probably my healthiest habit at the moment but motivates me to strive for recovery, so thanks guys!

A sorely needed podcast about recovery (or sometimes the opposite) that doesn't take itself too seriously. The hosts have a genuine repoire and hilarious firsthand knowledge of their subject. Really looking forward to diving into the back catalogue on my commute.

  • The perfect middle ground
July 4, 2016 by Lee Tay from New Zealand

Somewhere inbetween the podcasts that are 101% dedicated to sobriety and recovery comes 'Dopey' - which I recently discovered. The hosts, both having done their time in recovery; broadcast stories of everything inbetween the diehard sobriety chants and straight out of the horror-comedy genre 'casts. A place where those of us who are still in the mix, and, those of us whom have lifted themselves up out of the mix can come together and share their stories and shennanigans about times new and old - if you've had them - you got them; we all know it. Here's to a great podcast all in all! 5/5!

This podcast is hilarious. The anecdotes they tell about themselves in each episode make me feel like I'm not alone. The show also has great spontaneous flow. It doesn't appear to be rehearsed or rigid in its format. The Dopies have done a great job creating and bringing such a sensitive, serious topic to their listeners in an enjoyable way.

  • Dopey the dopey podcast about dope is dope!
May 24, 2016 by satanzilla from United States

From debauchery to recovery and back again- Dave and Chris and friends tell the most awesome, most awful, most hilarious, most shocking true stories of drug addiction you will ever find in one place. Nevermind all the drug and recovery talk, I think Chris and Dave have amazing chemistry and provide enough quality laughs, intriguing ideas, and subversive fun for anyone to get hooked on this weekly podcast (well, not anyone, but anyone I would want to hang with anyhow). If you are an addict, in recovery, or just enjoy voyeuristically dipping your toes into someone else's pool of depravity (like me), you need to feed your head some Dopey.

Chris's insane stories, (horrifying at times) and Dave's hilarious interjections and ribbing of Chris will keep you laughing the whole time. This podcast has become a staple for me, and once you give it a listen it will be for you too!

It's like two garbage trucks time traveling through the dumping grounds of their morbid and hilarious pasts. A hodgepodge of stories that could only be pulled from the unpredictable lives and experiences of two rock-bottom addicts. Baffling and entertaining…..

  • So funny, check it out ASAP
May 8, 2016 by Tedmann12 from United States

These two are honestly hilarious. Do yourself a favor and listen to them, you won't regret it.

I love this guy Chris. He is such a degenerate. It's important for guys like Chris give hope to all the other degenerates that someday, somehow, they may be able to have a podcast just like him. We need more mark prank calls

This is a hilarious show based off the crazy antics in addiction & recovery. Dopey is not your typical podcast on recovery. The show features 2 recovering addicts telling tales of crazy experiences in active addiction with humor as well a subtle but clear message of hope in a 12 step fellowship. Finally a podcast about recovery with some laughs!!

  • Keep them coming!!!!!
